Phoenix Yoga community
What makes us different

We're not just community-focused.
We're community-owned.

In 2021, The House of Yoga closed. Instead of walking away, the community took over. Teachers and students pooled resources, rebuilt the space, and opened the doors as something new: a studio that belongs to the people who practise here. Today, 25% of all profits go back into Phoenix and local community initiatives — not because it sounds good, but because it's the only way we know how to operate.

The space

You won't expect it.
That's the point.

Step off Upper Richmond Road and into something you didn't see coming. High ceilings. Floods of natural light. A space that feels open, calm, and genuinely beautiful — a world away from the city outside.

People stop in the doorway. It happens a lot.

Why Phoenix

Three things that drive everything we do.

Yoga practice

Yoga for every body

All classes are designed to be supportive, dynamic, and creative — complete beginners to experienced practitioners welcome at every session.

Well-being

Well-being, in and out

Through movement, breath, and stillness, we help you find calm amid the pace of London life — and carry it long after you leave the mat.

Community

Shaped by our community

Our schedule, events, and classes are all shaped by your feedback. When you step inside Phoenix, you're part of what makes this place what it is.

Common questions

Everything you need to know before you come in.

Absolutely. All of our classes are open to every level and our teachers are skilled at making complete beginners feel at ease from the first minute. If you want the most beginner-friendly start, our Gentle Flow or Fundamentals classes are designed exactly for you — but honestly, any class on the timetable will work. Just let your teacher know before class that it's your first time, and they'll take care of you.
Just yourself and comfortable clothes you can move in. We provide mats and all the props you'll need. Bring a water bottle if you like. Leave your shoes at the door and your phone in the cubby holes inside the studio. If you want to use the showers after class, bring your own towel.
You pay £50 once, and for 21 days you can attend as many classes as you like across our full timetable. After 21 days, nothing happens automatically — you simply choose which membership or class pack works for you, if any. There's no contract, no auto-renewal, and no hard sell. We'd rather you find the right fit than feel pressured into anything.
Two things, mainly. First, the space — people genuinely stop in the doorway when they walk in for the first time. High ceilings, floods of natural light, and a calm that you don't expect a few steps off Upper Richmond Road. Second, the community — Phoenix is owned by the teachers and members who use it. 25% of all profits go back into the studio and local community initiatives. That's not a tagline. It's how we're legally structured and how we operate.
Flexibility is not a prerequisite for yoga — it's a result of it. Our teachers always offer modifications and alternatives in every class, so whatever your starting point, you'll find something that works for your body. Nobody in our studio will judge you for where you're at. That's not who we are.
Phoenix Yoga is at 230 Upper Richmond Road, Putney, SW15 6TG — a short walk from Putney Bridge tube (District line) and East Putney station. We offer yoga classes in SW15 seven days a week, for all levels.
